In What State Did You Begin Your Morning?

Book Name:In What State Did You Begin Your Morning?

bin ‘Umarرَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ  advised me, saying, ‘O Mujahid! When you reach the morning, do not give your heart the hope of reaching the evening! When you reach the evening, do not hold the expectation of reaching the morning! Regard life as a gain before death! Regard health as a gain before illness! Indeed, you do not know what your name will be tomorrow (meaning, whether people will address you as "Sir" or remember you as "the deceased").’”[1]

Dear Islamic brothers! This is indeed the reality...!! When a person reaches the morning, he does not know whether he will be able to reach the evening or not...!! How many are there who wake up very happy and cheerful in the morning, but their night is spent in the grave? How many are there who sleep perfectly well at night, but they are not destined to wake up in the morning...!! Then what is the reason that we do not take heed? We remain immersed in heedlessness, we do not concern ourselves with the Hereafter, long hopes are established, and grand dreams are adorned. Upon waking in the morning, a long list of the day's tasks is in the mind, but alas! These do not include those actions that grant success in the Hereafter. Only the worry of the world, the world, and the world continues to haunt us. Alas, woe to us! We have reached the morning; whether we reach the evening or not, and if we reach the evening, whether we reach the morning or not—none of us knows.

The virtuous Mornings of the Pious People

* It was submitted to Sayyiduna Rabee’ bin Khaytham رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه: “In what state did you find yourself this morning?” He replied: “I have found myself this morning while being weak and a sinner, completing my sustenance, and waiting for death.” *  It was submitted in the service of Sayyiduna Abu Darda رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ: “In what state did you find yourself this morning?” He replied: “If I have attained salvation from the Fire, then I have found myself in a good state this morning.” *  It was submitted to Sayyiduna Owais Qarni رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه: “In what state did you find yourself this morning?” He replied: “What do you ask regarding the state of that person’s morning who, when he reaches the evening, does not know whether he will reach the morning (or not), and when he reaches the morning, he does not know whether he will reach the evening
