Blessings of Safar ul Muzaffar

Book Name:Blessings of Safar ul Muzaffar

Hakim-ul-Ummat, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه writes: It is permissible in Islam to take a good omen, but to take an ill-omen is Haraam. (Tafseer Na’eemi, vol. 9, p. 119)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic Brothers! We come to know from the aforementioned parable that there is no reality to ill-omens at all. Throughout his journey, that person fell victim to ill-omens in his mind and thought that it is better to end his journey and return back. As in his mind, after going through so much bad luck (i.e. ill omens), he did not see it possible for his needs to be met. But as the journey was necessary for him, he did not end it.

When he reached there, he received such an amount of money which he had not even seen before or expected. After having his need fulfilled in this way, he made his mindset that there is no reality to ill-omens. This parable completely eradicates the delusion of those who, only on the basis of their delusion (i.e. their baseless thoughts), have ill-fated thoughts about any human, animal, a day or a month, yet there is no reality to this in Shari’ah.

The difference in good and bad omens

Dear Islamic Brothers! The fundamental difference between having a bad and good omen is:

*   Taking a bad omen is forbidden by Shari’ah and it is Mustahab (preferable) to take a good omen.

*   Taking a good omen is the way of our Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, whereas taking a bad omen is the way of the non-Muslims.

*   Goodness is hoped for through the mercy and grace of Allah Almighty for taking a good omen, whereas hopelessness is created by taking bad omens.

*   Taking a good omen brings tranquillity to the heart and happiness which is required for attempting and completing any work, whereas taking a bad omen unnecessarily produces grief and suspicion.
