The Remaining Sunnahs and Etiquette for Clipping Nails
* A summary of the method narrated for clipping the nails of the fingers is presented: Beginning with the index finger of the right hand, clip your nails one after the other in the direction of the little finger. The thumb [of the right hand] will be left out. Next, proceed to clipping the nail of the little finger of the left hand and continue to clip the nails, working towards and including the thumb of the left hand. Finally, clip the nail of the thumb of the right hand. (Durr-e-Mukhtar, vol. 9, p. 670; Ihya-ul-Uloom, vol. 1, p. 193)
* There is no order that has been narrated for clipping the toenails. It is better to begin by clipping the nail of the little toe on the right foot and working your way up to and including the big toe of the right foot. Next, clip the nail of the big toe on your left foot, and work your way down to the nail of the little toe. (Durr-e-Mukhtar, vol. 9, p. 670; Ihya-ul-Uloom, vol. 1, p. 193)
* Clipping the nails is disliked if one is in a state when Ghusl is Fard. (Fatawa Hindiyyah, vol. 5, p. 358)
* To trim the nails by biting them is disliked and presents the risk of leprosy. (Fatawa Hindiyyah, vol. 5, p. 358)
* After trimming the nails, bury them. There is also no harm in throwing them away. (Fatawa Hindiyyah, vol. 5, p. 358)
