Sayyidunā ꜤAmr b. Ḥurayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما
Among those blessed children who attained the honour of being noble Companions of the final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم at a young age was Sayyidunā ꜤAmr b. Ḥurayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما. Let us enlighten our hearts with the love of the noble Companions رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُم by reading a brief account of his blessed childhood.
Brief Introduction
He was one of the child Companions. He was the son of the Companion Sayyidunā Ḥurayth b. ʿAmr, and Lady ꜤAmrah bint Hishām. He was also the brother of the Companion SaꜤīd b. Ḥurayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُم. He was born in 2 AH and was the first Qurayshi who built a house in Kufa.[1]
Presented before the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم by his mother
He narrates, “My mother once took me to the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He cast his sacred hand across my head and prayed for me to be blessed with sustenance in abundance.”[2]
Number of narrations
Six blessed Aḥādīth have been narrated from him.[3]
Beholding the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم wearing a black Ꜥimāmah
He narrates, “Indeed, that scene is still before my eyes, when the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was upon the pulpit wearing a black Ꜥimāmah, and the two ends of the Ꜥimāmah were hanging between his blessed shoulders.”[4]
Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khān Naʿīmī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes how several rulings are derived from this Hadith:
1. Wearing a black Ꜥimāmah is Sunnah.
2. An Ꜥimāmah without a shimlah (tail end or ends) is against the Sunnah. It must have a shimlah.
3. It is better to have two shimlahs hanging at one’s back.
4. The Prophet’s Ꜥimāmah was seven handspans long, and the shimlah slightly more than a hand span.[5]
Passing away:
At the time of
the Prophet’s passing, Sayyidunā ꜤAmr b. Ḥurayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما was eight years old. He passed away in Makkah
in 85 A.H.[6]
May Allah shower His mercy upon him and forgive us without accountability for
his sake.
