Sayyiduna Amr b. Hurayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمَا

 Sayyidunā Amr b. urayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما

Among those blessed children who attained the honour of being noble Companions of the final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم at a young age was Sayyidunā Amr b. urayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما. Let us enlighten our hearts with the love of the noble Companions رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُم by reading a brief account of his blessed childhood.

Brief Introduction

He was one of the child Companions. He was the son of the Companion Sayyidunā urayth b. ʿAmr, and Lady Amrah bint Hishām. He was also the brother of the Companion Saīd b. urayth رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُم. He was born in 2 AH and was the first Qurayshi who built a house in Kufa.[1]

Presented before the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم by his mother

He narrates, “My mother once took me to the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He cast his sacred hand across my head and prayed for me to be blessed with sustenance in abundance.”[2]

Number of narrations

Six blessed Aādīth have been narrated from him.[3]

Beholding the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم wearing a black imāmah

He narrates, “Indeed, that scene is still before my eyes, when the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was upon the pulpit wearing a black imāmah, and the two ends of the imāmah were hanging between his blessed shoulders.”[4]

Mufti Amad Yār Khān Naʿīرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes how several rulings are derived from this Hadith:

1. Wearing a black imāmah is Sunnah.

2. An imāmah without a shimlah (tail end or ends) is against the Sunnah. It must have a shimlah.

3. It is better to have two shimlahs hanging at one’s back.

4. The Prophet’s imāmah was seven handspans long, and the shimlah slightly more than a hand span.[5]

Passing away:

At the time of the Prophet’s passing, Sayyidunā Amr b. urayth  رَضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُما was eight years old. He passed away in Makkah in 85 A.H.[6]

May Allah shower His mercy upon him and forgive us without accountability for his sake.
