The Sons and Daughters of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ

The Sons and Daughters of the Beloved Prophet

Dear Islamic brothers! Allah Almighty granted the Holy Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم three sons and four daughters. Here is a brief introduction to them:

Sayyidunā Qāsim

He was born from the blessed womb of the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Khadījah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا, before the proclamation of Prophethood. The patronymic (kunyah) of the Noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم , “Abū al-Qāsim”, is derived from his name. According to the majority of scholars, he learnt to walk on his feet when he passed away.[1]

Sayyidunā ꜤAbdullāh

He was born in Makkah before the proclamation of Prophethood and passed away in infancy. “Ṭayyib” and “Ṭāhir” are his titles.[2]

Sayyidunā Ibrāhīm

He is the youngest son. He was born in Dhū al-Ḥijjah 8 AH at ꜤĀliyah, near Madinah, from the blessed womb of Sayyidah Māriyah Qibṭiyyah رَضِیَ اللہُ عَنْہَا , and passed away at the age of 17 or 18 months on 10 RabīꜤ al-Awwal 10 AH.[3]

Sayyidah Zainab

She is the eldest daughter. She was born in Makkah ten years before the proclamation of Prophethood, and passed away in 8 AH.[4]

Sayyidah Ruqayyah

She was born seven years before the proclamation of Prophethood. She was married to Sayyidunā ꜤUthmān b. ꜤAffān رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, and she passed away on 19 Ramadan 2 AH, on the third day of the Victory of Badr, at the age of twenty. [5]

Sayyidah Umm Kulthūm

After the death of Sayyidah Ruqayyah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا, her marriage to Sayyidunā ꜤUthmān رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ took place in RabīꜤ al-Awwal 3 AH. She passed away in ShaꜤbān 9 AH. [6]

Sayyidah Fāṭimah al-Batūl

She is the youngest, dearest and most cherished daughter of the Beloved Prophet Her marriage took place in 2 AH to Sayyidunā ꜤAlī b. The noble Sayyids in the world today are the descendants of her sons, Imam Ḥasan and Imam Ḥusain Six months after the Noble Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم departed from this world, she passed away on 3 Ramadan al-Mubārak 11 AH. [7]

May Allah have mercy upon them and forgive us without accountability for their sake.
