Greed Took a Life
A bird was sitting on the branch of a tree. Suddenly, its gaze fell upon grains scattered on the ground, which, in reality, a hunter had spread to catch it. The greed for the grains pulled it towards them, and without thinking or understanding, it descended upon the ground and began pecking the grains with delight. It had only eaten a few grains when a net fell upon it, and that bird got trapped in it. The hunter caught it, slaughtered it, roasted it, and ate it. After this, the hunter scattered grains in another place to catch a second bird, but that bird did not fall into greed and sensed (meaning, understood) the danger; it took the path to the forest. Thus, it was saved from getting trapped in the hunter's net.[1]
Dear little boys and girls! Did you see that the hunter scattered grain for both birds, but the first bird fell into greed, descended to eat it without thinking or understanding, and became the hunter's prey? From this, we learn the following
Pearl of Wisdom:
We should not do any task without thinking or understanding. Rather, before doing that task, we should ponder whether there is any harm for us in the work we are about to do. For example, do not take and eat toffee and similar items from a stranger (meaning, someone you do not know) in the street, neighbourhood, or during travel etc., without your parents' permission. It is possible that it contains drugs causing unconsciousness. By eating it, you might faint and that stranger might kidnap you and take you away. Similarly, we should also check if the work we are about to do is a sin. Let it not be that for the sake of a moment's pleasure, we get trapped in the net of Satan and displease our Lord. Just as making fun of someone, distorting names, and forcefully taking and consuming what belongs to them gives some people a lot of enjoyment, but doing so breaks the hearts of others and Allah Almighty also becomes displeased.
