Surah Taha Ayat 114 Translation Tafseer

Para 16 - قَالَ اَلَمْ

سورة طه

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

20.114

فَتَعٰلَى اللّٰهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّۚ-وَ لَا تَعْجَلْ بِالْقُرْاٰنِ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ یُّقْضٰۤى اِلَیْكَ وَحْیُهٗ٘-وَ قُلْ رَّبِّ زِدْنِیْ عِلْمًا(114)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

So Allah is Most-High, the True King; and do not resort to haste with the Quran before the completion of its revelation to you.[1] And say, “O my Lord! Increase my knowledge.”[2]

Commentary

When the noble Jibrīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام would descend with the Quran, the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would recite with him in a swift manner so that he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم could memorise it well. Thus, this verse was revealed which expressed that the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم should not exert himself in memorising it. Then in Surah al-Qiyāmah, Allah Almighty attributed the compilation of the Quran and enabling the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم to remember it to Himself, thereby encouraging him further.

The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم is the most knowledgeable among the creation, and his knowledge is continually increasing. Despite this, he صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم was still commanded to supplicate for an increase in knowledge; from this, we come to realise that one should never be content with the knowledge acquired and should continuously seek ways of increasing it. The longing for knowledge is a commendable thing.
