Surah Taha Ayat 56-57-58 Translation Tafseer

Para 16 - قَالَ اَلَمْ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

20.56-57-58

وَ لَقَدْ اَرَیْنٰهُ اٰیٰتِنَا كُلَّهَا فَكَذَّبَ وَ اَبٰى(56) قَالَ اَجِئْتَنَا لِتُخْرِجَنَا مِنْ اَرْضِنَا بِسِحْرِكَ یٰمُوْسٰى(57) فَلَنَاْتِیَنَّكَ بِسِحْرٍ مِّثْلِهٖ فَاجْعَلْ بَیْنَنَا وَ بَیْنَكَ مَوْعِدًا لَّا نُخْلِفُهٗ نَحْنُ وَ لَاۤ اَنْتَ مَكَانًا سُوًى(58)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

And We showed him Our signs, all of them, then he denied and rejected. He (Pharaoh) said, “Have you come to us to drive us out of our land[1] with your sorcery, O Mūsā?[2] So We shall most definitely bring sorcery to you like it, so make an agreement between us and yourselves which will neither be broken by us nor you; a place with equal distance.”

Commentary

After witnessing the miracles of Prophet Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام, Pharaoh had come to realise that he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام was upon the truth and not a magician. However, to preserve his authority, he used a political tactic to misguide the people and declared the miracle of Prophet Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام to be sorcery. He expressed that it was the mission of Prophet Mūsā عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام to drive them (the Copts) out of their lands so that he عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام could assume power himself.
