Respect for the shrine of his Murshid

Once, Khawājah Gharīb Nawāz, Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīnرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه   was teaching his students. During the discourse, whenever his gaze turned to the right, he immediately stood up out of respect. The students were astonished to see their teacher repeatedly stand during the gathering, but no one dared to inquire at that moment.

After everyone left, one student humbly asked, “During the session, you stood up several times. What was the wisdom behind this?” Khawājah Gharīb Nawāz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه replied, “On that side lies the  shrine of my murshid, Shaykh ꜤUthmān al-Hārūnī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه. Whenever I looked in that direction, I stood out of respect.”^[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                     صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic brothers! Look at how Khawājah Gharīb Nawāz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه showed immense respect and devotion in serving his spiritual guide. Indeed, serving one’s murshid is a means of great blessings and success. Let us now listen to some benefits of serving our murshid.

Benefits of serving a Murshid

Serving a murshid:

1. brings a person closer to Allah Almighty

2. protects one from sins

3. makes us steadfast in good deeds

4. helps one die with faith

5. saves a person from misguidance

6. purifies the soul

7. instils humility and modesty
