of Sulṭān al-Hind, Khawājah-i-Khawājgān, Khwājah Gharīb Nawāz, Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīn Ḥasan al-Sijzī al-Chishtī al-Ajmerī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه.
He was a spiritual personality of the highest rank, and his fame and acceptance were spread not only throughout the Indian subcontinent but, like the rays of the Sun, across many countries of the world. His sainthood, spiritual blessings, fulfilling of people’s needs, and marvels are well-known in both Arab and non-Arab lands. Muslims commemorate the anniversary of his passing every year on the 6th of Rajab and convey reward to him. Today, we will listen to a brief account of his noble life and exemplary character.
Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīn Ḥasanرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه was a forbearing saint who would pardon and overlook faults. Even when someone treated him badly, he never became angry; instead, he responded with kindness, as if he had not heard the person’s hurtful words at all.
Once, while travelling from Lahore to Ajmer, he stopped in Delhi for some time. During his stay, a non-Muslim came with the intention of killing him. Through spiritual insight (kashf), Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīn رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه became aware of his evil intention, yet welcomed him with kindness. Seating him lovingly by his side, he said, “Fulfil the purpose for which you have come.”
The man was astonished upon hearing these words, and immediately became filled with remorse. Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīn رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه forgave him, and this display of noble and merciful conduct had such a profound effect on him that he embraced Islam.
Sayyid MuꜤīn al-Dīn رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه then made a special supplication for him. Its effect was such that he was blessed to perform Hajj forty-five times, and he eventually became one of the servants of the Ka’bah.[1]
