this month, Muslims bear the heat of hunger and thirst, or, it is known as ‘Ramadan’ because it burns away sins.’ (Mirat-ul-Manajih, vol. 3, p. 182) The Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘This month was given the name Ramadan, for it burns sins.’ (Kanz-ul-Ummal, Juzz 4, vol. 8, p. 217, Hadith 23683)

The names of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak

Shaykh Shihaab-ud-Deen Ahmad Bin Hijazi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has mentioned two other names of the month of Ramadan besides ‘Ramadan’:

   ۔1The month of patience

   ۔2The month of consolation. (Tuhfa-tul-Ikhwan fi qira’at-ul-Mi’aad fi Rajab wa Sha’ban wa Ramazan, p. 94, summarised)

Besides these, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه has mentioned, ‘The month of increase in sustenance’ as one of its names. He رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states, ‘Every month has special dates, and every date has special times for specific worships, for example, Hajj in the few specific days of Eid-ul-Adha, and the 10^th of Muharram is superior, however, worship is performed in every day and every moment of Ramadan. Fasting is worship, Iftar is worship, waiting for Taraweeh after Iftar is worship, sleeping after praying Taraweeh whilst anticipating Sahri is worship, and then eating for Sahri is also worship. In short, the grandeur of Allah Almighty is seen in every moment. (Tafseer Na’eemi, part 2, Surah Al-Baqarah, under the verse 185, vol. 2, p. 208) The angels say ‘Ameen’ to the Du’as of those who fast in this month and the fish seek forgiveness for those who fast.’ (Attargheeb Wattarheeb, vol. 2, p. 55, Hadith 6)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                  صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
