Dear Islamic brothers! In this blessed verse, Allah Almighty has mentioned a speciality of Ramadan, that the Holy Quran was revealed in this blessed month, and alongside this speciality, He also mandated the fasting of Ramadan. Remember! After affirmation of Tawheed (Oneness of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ) and Prophethood, and bringing faith in all of the necessities of the religion (Zaruriyat-e-Deen), just as Salah has been made Fard upon every Muslim, keeping the fasts of Ramadan has also been made Fard upon every sane and adult Muslim (man and woman). It is stated in Durr-e-Mukhtar, ‘Fasting was made Fard on the 10^th of Sha’ban-ul-Mu’azzam 2 AH.’ (Durr-e-Mukhtar ma’ Rad-ul-Muhtar, vol. 3, p. 383)

Virtue of fasting

Dear Islamic brothers! The most superior worship in Ramadan-ul-Mubarak is fasting, therefore, all Islamic brothers should make an intention to observe all of the fasts of Ramadan alongside performing other good deeds. Many virtues regarding the fasts of Ramadan have been mentioned in the Ahadith. Let us listen to two sayings of the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم in this regard:

   ۔1He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘مَنْ صَامَ رَمَضَانَ اِيْمَانًا وَ احْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهٗ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِـہٖ’, meaning, ‘The Muslim who kept the fasts of Ramadan with the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.’ (Bukhari, vol. 1, p. 626, Hadith 1901, selected)

   ۔2He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘Indeed, there is a door in Paradise which is called ‘Rayyaan’; the fasting people will enter through this door on the Day of Judgement, and no one besides them will enter it. It will be said: Where are the fasting people? Thus, these people will stand and no one besides them will enter through this door. After they enter, the door will be closed, and then nobody will enter that door.’ (Bukhari, vol. 1, p. 625, Hadith 1896)

Dear Islamic brothers! Just as fasting is a very beloved worship of Allah
