Almighty, it also has many purposes and wisdoms:

   *Due to fasting, a person constantly remains in the fear of Allah Almighty, whether in private or public

   *He strives to please Allah Almighty

   *He gains protection from the displeasure of Allah Almighty and from Hell

   *The fasting person gains steadfastness upon obeying Allah Almighty, help in staying away from acts of disobedience and the ability to rectify his Nafs

   *The desires of the Nafs are weakened

   *One attains physical health and purification of the heart.

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                  صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

The reason for referring to Ramadan as ‘Ramadan’

Dear Islamic brothers! Before listening to more ways of spending Ramadan doing virtuous acts, let us listen to the interesting reason of why Ramadan is called ‘Ramadan’. Ramadan is from ‘Ramdun’, which means ‘to burn in the heat’. When the names of the months were related from the ancient Arabs, the names of the months were kept in accordance to the season of that time; coincidentally, Ramadan came during a time of intense heat, hence, it was called ‘Ramadan’. (Al-Nihayah li Ibn-e-Aseer, vol. 2, p. 240; ‘Ajaaib-ul-Makhluqat, p. 69)

Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states, ‘Just as a furnace cleans impure metal and makes pure metal valuable by transforming it into a part, and makes gold worthy of being worn by the beloved, in a similar manner, fasting removes the sins of the sinners, increases the ranks of the righteous, and increases one in proximity to Allah Almighty, which is why it is called ‘Ramadan’.
