Book Name:Sharm O Haya Kesy Kehty Hain

Yusuf رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه, was young. He would spend most of his time in Masjid. Once while returning home from Masjid, his sight fell upon a woman and his heart inclined towards her. Immediately, he repented out of embarrassment and implored in the court of Allah Almighty in the following way: ‘O my Master! Although eyes are a very big blessing, but now I fear lest they become a means of my destruction and I get inflicted with punishment due to them. O my Lord! Take away my sight.’ Hence, his Du’a was accepted and he became blind. (‘Uyoon-ul-Hikayat, p. 165, summarised)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                                            صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic brothers, such great mindset and approach of Sayyiduna Yunus رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه was specific to him. We should also protect our eyes from every such act that is contrary to modesty. Particularly, if there is an unveiled woman at a reception desk or on the way, then protect your eyes as looking at her with an ill intention is a satanic act.

Sayyiduna Abdullah Bin Mas’ood رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the Holy Prophetصَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم  has stated: ‘A woman is Aurah (i.e. something to conceal). When she goes out, Satan stares at her’. (That is, looking at her is a satanic act.)’ (Tirmizi, Bab 18, vol. 2, p. 392, Hadith 1176)

Another Hadith mentions as follows: ‘He who looks at the beauty of a non-Mahram lustfully, on the Day of Judgement, molten lead will be poured into his eyes.’ (Hidayah, vol. 4, p. 368)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                                            صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic brothers, we were listening to the accounts of modesty of our noble elders. Let us listen to another account.

Modesty of Sayyiduna Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه

A noble predecessor reports the following: ‘Sayyiduna Umar Bin Abdul Aziz رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه would converse cautiously. Once, a blister appeared in his armpit. We came to inquire after him regarding it to see what he says. So, we asked him: ‘Where has it appeared?’ to which he replied: ‘In the inner part of the arm.’ (Ihya-ul-‘Uloom, vol. 3, p. 151)
