The Angels Supplicate
Maulana Muhammad Afzal ‘Attari Madani
The vast, unbound mercy of Allah Almighty permeates every aspect of our lives. Even in our struggle to attain his proximity, Allah Almighty has designated particular deeds which, if we execute them, will cause the sinless angels to pray for our forgiveness. In this article, we continue to explore this topic.
Donning an Islamic Turban (ʿImamah) on Friday
The Beloved Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: ‘اِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالٰی وَمَلائِکتَهٗ یُصَلُّونَ عَلیٰ اَصْحَابِ العَمائِمِ یَوْمَ الجُمُعَة’ ‘Verily, Allah Almighty and his angels send Salat on those who don an ʿImamah on Friday.’ (Kanz-ul-Ummal, vol. 4, p. 302, Hadith 21162)
Sayyiduna Ibn ʿAbbās رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُما explained: ‘For the angels to ‘send prayers’ means that they do seek forgiveness [for the person]. (Fatḥ al-Bārī, vol. 12, p. 131)

Serving the Masjid
According to Sayyiduna Anas b. Mālik رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ, the normal angels and the Throne Bearers continue seeking forgiveness for the person who lights a lamp in the masjid, for as long as the lamp continues to burn. (Iḥyā al-ʿUlūm, vol. 1, p. 207)
Writing Salat upon the Prophet
Allah’s Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said that ‘Whoever writes Salat upon me in a book, angels will continue seeking forgiveness for him for as long as my name remains in it.’ (Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ, vol. 1, p. 497, Hadith 1835)
Reciting Surah Al-Dukhān

Our Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم gave glad tidings to the seekers of knowledge: ‘اِنَّ طَالِبَ الْعِلْمِ یَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهٗ مَنْ فِی السَّمَاءِ وَالْاَرْضِ’ “The entire creation of the skies and the earth seek forgiveness for the seeker of knowledge.” (Sunan Ibn-e-Mājah, vol. 1, p. 146, Hadith 223)
Dear Islamic brothers! How fortunate are those for whom the angels seek forgiveness; may Allah Almighty make us worthy of these angelic prayers.
