Therefore, he did not pay attention to the dream. After some time, he had a similar dream in which the same message was repeated. However, the worshipper did not pay attention to the dream until he saw it again for the third time.

After repeatedly hearing about the virtues of the cobbler, the worshipper descended from the mountain and travelled to meet him. When the cobbler saw the worshipper, he left what he was doing and stood up out of respect and kissed his hand. He then asked, “What caused you to leave your place of worship?”

The worshipper replied, “I have been told your rank is higher than mine in the court of Allah Almighty. This is why I have come to visit you. Tell me which action of yours has given you such a lofty station before Allah Almighty.”

The cobbler remained silent, as if he did not want to tell him what it was. Then he said, “I do nothing special, but I spend the entire day earning a lawful sustenance and I protect myself from gaining wealth from impermissible sources. From the wealth Allah Almighty grants me in a day, I give half of it in charity and I spend the other half on my family and dependents. The second action is that I observe a lot of fasts. Besides this, I do nothing else that is worthy of virtue.”

The worshipper left and busied himself in worship again after hearing this. After some time, he had a dream and he was told to ask the cobbler what he fears that caused his face to turn pale. So, the worshipper went to the cobbler again and asked, “Why is your face pale? What do you fear?”

The cobbler replied, “Whenever I see someone, I always think he is better than me, and that he is worthy of Paradise whilst I am worthy of Hell. I consider myself to be the lowliest of people and the greatest sinner. I remain in fear of Hell at all times. This is the
