There are many benefits of having good assumptions of others:
1. Its blessings protect you from evil assumptions, thereby earning you reward.
2. The honour of a Muslim brother is protected.
3. The one who thinks well of his Muslim brothers is granted tranquillity, and the one who thinks negatively of others has a troubled heart.
4. The greatest benefit of thinking positively is that a person attains the pleasure of Allah Almighty and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم.
There are many harms of evil assumptions, including:
1. Expressing your bad opinion in front of someone can hurt his feelings, and it is forbidden in Islam to hurt a Muslim’s feelings.
2. Voicing these evil thoughts to someone else is backbiting, and it is forbidden to backbite a Muslim.
3. Having bad assumptions leads to spying as the heart is not content with only the thought, but it seeks confirmation too. Spying, in the sense of waiting for a Muslim brother to sin, is forbidden.
4. It can lead to spiritual diseases such as hatred, jealousy and enmity.[1]
5. People who always make negative assumptions even at the smallest of issues are avoided by others, disgraced and looked down upon.
