صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! Any thought that arises due to something apparent is an assumption. For example, thinking of fire when seeing smoke from afar is an assumption. Assumptions can be good and evil.
Prophetic Narrations regarding Positive Assumptions
1. اِنَّ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ مِنَ الْاِيْمَان “Indeed, having good assumptions is part of faith.”[1]
2. Whilst circumambulating the KaꜤbah, the noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “How pure you and your atmosphere are, and how great you and your sanctity are. Oath by the One in Whose power is the soul of Muhammad (صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم), the life of a believer, his blood, his wealth, and the sanctity of having positive assumptions about him, are greater before Allah Almighty than your sanctity.”[2]
3. حُسْنُ الظَّنِّ مِنْ حُسْنِ الْعِبَادَةِ “To harbour good thoughts is an excellent worship.”[3]
Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states regarding the last Hadith: “Having good thoughts about Muslims and refraining from evil assumptions is meritorious worship.”[4]
