The young man was overcome with grief. He began to cry at this question and was unable to answer. After a little while, Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān said, “Crying will not achieve anything. State your purpose!”

The young man explained the whole situation. Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān then said, “Why have you come to me?” The young man began to cry again. Overwhelmed by sorrow, he was unable to bring himself to request for his oath of allegiance to be renewed. Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān then said, “Stay here. I have some tasks to do.” Saying these words, he left.

We consoled that young man again and said, “Do not be afraid. Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān will come to offer Ẓuhr Salah. At that point, inform the imam that you wish to renew your oath of allegiance. After salah, the young man requested to have his spiritual pledge renewed by the imam, to which Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه replied, “When you have taken an oath of allegiance there, why are you asking me?”

The young man said, “Your honour! I am at fault. I was misled by people’s words. I ask your forgiveness for this.”

Imam Aḥmad Razā Khān رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه stated, “Reflect, contemplate, understand! I only accept murids so that they remain on the straight path. It is not right that you stand at one door today and at another door tomorrow. یَکْ دَرْ گِیْر مُحْکَم گِیْر (Stay loyal at one door).”
