Na Mehram Se Meljol Ka Wabal

Book Name:Na Mehram Se Meljol Ka Wabal

Commentary of Hadith

In the commentary of this Hadith, Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه writes the following in volume 2 of Mirat-ul-Manajeeh, page 527: Meaning, for as long as the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddeeq رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ were buried in my room, I would enter the room with my head exposed or covered; in any state, for there is neither any Hijab in front of one’s husband nor one’s father. However, since Sayyiduna Umar (رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ) was buried in my room, I have not entered without wearing a shawl and covering myself properly, for I feel shame before Sayyiduna Umar (رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ).

Dear Islamic brothers! We learn many things from this Hadith: One is that we should respect the deceased even after death. The jurists state that one should honour the deceased just as they would during their lifetime. The second is that we should respect the graves of the pious and have shame before them. The third is that the deceased person sees the people from inside his grave and recognises them. Look! Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqah (رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا) felt shame before Sayyiduna Umar (رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ) even after his passing, and if he رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ could not see outside of his grave then what would be the reason for feeling shame.

The fourth is that the soil, planks, etc., of the grave do not become barriers for the eyes of the deceased person, but the clothing of the visiting person do become a barrier, therefore, the visitor does not appear unclothed before the deceased, otherwise, what would be the purpose of Sayyidatuna Aisha Siddiqah (رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا) covering herself before going there; this is the divine law.
