Remaining Sunnahs and etiquettes of eating
* Remove your shoes before eating.
* Recite بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم before eating.
* If you forget to recite بسم اللہ at the start of eating, upon remembering, recite بِسْمِ اللہِ اَوَّلَہٗ وَاٰخِرَہ.
* If this Du’a is recited before eating, then even if the food contains poison, اِنْ شَــآءَالـلّٰـه its effects will no longer remain:
بِسْمِ اللہِ الَّذِیْ لَایَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِہٖ شَیْءٌ فِی الْاَرْضِ وَلَا فِی السَّمَآءِ یَاحَیُّ يَاقَیُّوْمُ
(i.e. In the name of Allah, through the blessings of Whose name nothing can cause harm in the heavens and the earth. O Ever-Living, O Self-Established). (Firdaus al Akhbar, vol. 1, p. 274, Hadith 1955)
* Eat with the right hand.
* Eat from in front of you.
* Do not find faults in the food, for example, ‘It is not cooked properly,’ or, ‘It is overcooked,’ as criticising food is Makruh and against the Sunnah, rather, if you feel like it, then eat it, and if you do not, then do not eat it.
