Dear Islamic brothers! Another means of increasing our love for Allah Almighty is to offer prayer regularly, keep all the fasts of Ramadan, pay zakat on time, and alongside carrying out obligatory acts of worship, remain steadfast in voluntary acts.
A person who offers voluntary acts of worship also becomes a beloved and favoured servant of Allah Almighty.
Frequent voluntary acts of worship
Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ narrates from the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم that Allah declares:
Whoever causes harm to a friend of Mine, I declare war upon him. My servant draws near to Me through nothing more beloved to Me than obligatory acts, and he continues to draw closer to Me through voluntary worship until I begin to love him.
When I love My servant, I become his ear with which he hears, his eye with which he sees, his hand with which he grasps, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks of Me, I grant to him. If he seeks My protection, I surely grant him protection.”[1]
Mufti Aḥmad Yār Khān al-NaꜤīmiرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه explains this Hadith:
This does not mean that Allah indwells in a saint, like fire in coal, or color and fragrance in a flower. Allah is pure from such indwelling (ḥulūl), and believing in such a thing is disbelief (kufr).
Rather, one meaning is that the limbs of a saint no longer remain inclined to sin; only good actions manifest from them. Worship becomes easy for him. Allah enables them to perform all acts of worship. It could also mean the saint no longer uses his limbs for worldly purposes. He uses them only for Allah, thinking about Him in every matter.
