How To Spend Days And Nights?

Book Name:How To Spend Days And Nights?

Almighty made the sign of the night dark so that everything would be hidden in it and made the day very bright. Why? So that you may seek the grace of your Lord! The Proof of Islam, Imām Muḥammad al-Ghazālī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه, says, “The grace that is commanded to be sought in this blessed verse refers to rewards and forgiveness.”[1]

This means that it is being said that We have made the night a sign of Our power and the day also a sign of Our power. Why? So that day and night, you may perform good deeds, and through deeds that lead to Paradise, you may seek a great reward in the Hereafter and the forgiveness of Allah Almighty!

The Companion of the Messenger, Sayyidunā Abū al-Dardāˈ رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ, says:

O son of Ādam! Trample the earth with your feet! Soon you will go inside it. O son of Ādam! What is your life? It is but a sum of days. When one day passes, a part of your life decreases. Indeed, since the day you were born, your life has been continuously decreasing.[2]

The Advice of a Believer

Sayyidunā Ubaydullāh ibn Sumayṭرَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه  states:

I heard my respected father say: “A believing servant reminds himself, 'O carnal-self (nafs)! This worldly and mortal life is but three days: one day has passed, the second is the one that is passing now, so consider that it has also passed, and the third is tomorrow, and that is a hollow hope that you may not attain. Assuming that you live until tomorrow, tomorrow will bring your sustenance and a message of death for an unknown number of people. It is possible that you may also be among those who are to receive the message of death. And if you are granted more life, the sorrow of poverty, illness, and calamities will remain prevalent over your weak and feeble heart. When you have so many worldly sorrows, how will your heart turn towards the concern for the afterlife?

Remember! Every passing day is reducing your life, yet you do not care.
