Whether the destination is Paradise or Hell all depends on how we undertake this journey; will it be as someone who is obedient to Allah and His Messenger صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, or someone disobedient to them? Most unfortunate is the one who witnesses the true colours of the world and remains trapped in its deception, becoming completely heedless of death.

The world is temporary and the Hereafter is eternal

The following is a portion of what the third Caliph of Islam, Sayyidunā ꜤUthmān b. ꜤAffān رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُ stated in his final sermon:

Allah only granted you the world so you use it to prepare for the Hereafter. He did not grant it for you to devote yourself to it entirely. No doubt, the world is ephemeral and the Hereafter is everlasting.

Do not let the transient deceive you into becoming heedless of the perpetual. Do not give preference to the fleeting world over the everlasting Hereafter, for the world is coming to an end, and indeed, our return is to Allah.

Fear Allah, for fear of Him is a shield against His punishment and a means of reaching Him.^[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                      صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
