We should also follow in their footsteps by starting to prepare for the grave and Hereafter during our lives. We should take measures to ensure we are never heedless. In fact, heedlessness is a disease. The way we seek cure for other illnesses, we should do the same for this.  Let us listen to some methods of avoiding the harmful spiritual disease of heedlessness and strive to better our Hereafter.

(1) Avoiding love for the world

One major reason for being distant from good deeds and falling into heedlessness today, is love for the world. This is something that causes a person to forget about the distinction between lawful and unlawful and prevents him from righteous deeds. So, empty your heart of love for the world, as it is the root of every corruption.

The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated:

He who saturated his heart with love for the world, three things from it will adhere to him: fatigue whose distress will never wane, avarice that will never make him rich, and desire that he will be unable to attain.

The one who sought the world, the Hereafter will continue to search for him until his death, and it will seize him when he dies. As for he who seeks the Hereafter, the world will continue to search for him until he takes his full share of sustenance from it.[1]

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                      صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

(2) Good company

To avoid a life of heedlessness, find good company. By doing this, we will gain the ability to avoid sins and do good deeds. In today’s day and age,
