Despite avoiding sin, the pious slaves of Allah Almighty would shed tears and always tremble in fear of Him. We on the other hand heedlessly commit sins day and night without hesitation, but we feel no fear and speak as though there is nobody more pious than us.
To awaken us from this heedlessness, Shaykh Shaqīq al-Balkhī رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه states:
People say three things but act in opposition to them.
First, they say they are slaves of Allah, but do not act accordingly and instead do as they please.
Second, they say that it is Allah who grants them sustenance, yet their hearts do not feel any peace without amassing the world and worldly possessions. This is in clear opposition to what they say they believe.
Third, they say that they will die someday, but they act as though they will live forever.[1]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! We make every effort to earn the world, but we remain heedless of the Hereafter. We dream day and night about becoming wealthy. We desire to drive around in expensive cars. We try to adopt the latest fashion trends. Yet, we forget that we must die and we will have to leave this world empty-handed one day. None of us know when we will die. In fact, we have no guarantee as to whether we will be able to take another breath; it is possible the breath we are taking is our last.
