of truth) in the Tawrah, and he is called Kāfī in the Injīl. His name in Paradise will be Sirāj.[1]
He رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ was born in Makkah, and according to one opinion, he was the 40th man to accept Islam. This is why he is called مُتَمِّمُ الْاَرْبَعِین (i.e. completer of 40).[2] The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم supplicated for him to accept Islam, which is why he is also known as the Messenger’s wish (Murād al-Rasūl).[3] His justness and fairness were unparalleled, which earned him the title of اَعْدَلُ الْاَصْحَاب (i.e. the most just of the Companions).[4]
He lived to the age of 63 and fulfilled his obligations as caliph for 12 years.[5] His reign as caliph was a golden age for the Muslims. His rulership, justice, mannerisms, fear of Allah Almighty, piety, humility, ascetism and kindness are perfect examples of what Muslims should strive to achieve.
Virtues of Sayyidunā ꜤUmar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ
O devotees of the Companions and Ahl al-Bayt! Sayyidunā ꜤUmar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ possesses countless virtues. Sayyidunā Jibril عَلَیْہِ السَّلَام was once in the presence of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم and Sayyidunā ꜤUmar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ was mentioned. The beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, “O Jibril! Mention the virtues of ꜤUmar and his rank in the court of Allah Almighty.” Sayyidunā Jibril عَلَیْہِ السَّلَام replied:
