سُبْحٰنَ اللہ! O devotees of the Companions and Ahl al-Bayt! Even before his arrival into the world, the scholars of the previous scriptures and those who were familiar with the teachings of the Prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ الصَّلٰوة وَالسَّلام were aware of an esteemed individual who would come from the nation of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. The name of this man would be ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ, his religiosity would be elevated, and his conviction would be most firm. During his lifetime, Islam would be dominant, and people would be safe from Hell. However, when he would leave the world, people would continue to fall into Hell until the Day of Judgement.
Dear Islamic brothers! Consider the efficacy of the supplication of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. He supplicated: اَللّٰہُمَّ اَعَزِّ الْاِسْلَامَ بِعُمَربْنِ الْخَطَّاب “O Allah Almighty! Elevate the honour of Islam through ꜤUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb.”[1]
Through the blessings of the Prophet’s supplication, Sayyidunā ꜤUmar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ accepted Islam. The Muslims at the time rejoiced, and the sound of the takbīr echoed throughout Makkah. On that day, the Muslims performed their first public prayer in al-Masjid al-Ḥarām. From that day until his passing away, Islam only increased in honour, it spread far and wide, and an unmatched system of justice was established. The flag of Islam flew high in many places.
O devotees of the Prophet! Such was the effect of the noble Prophet’s supplication! Islam was elevated during his lifetime, but when he passed away, the age of tribulation began.
