Book Name:Taqwa o Parhezgari
وَ اُزْلِفَتِ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِیْنَ غَیْرَ بَعِیْدٍ(۳۱)
And Paradise will be brought close to the pious, which will not be far away from them.[1]
Dear Islamic brothers! Besides what we have just mentioned, there are countless others benefits and excellences in adopting the quality of piety. It is enough for us to understand the greatness and honour of this esteemed quality that Allah Almighty has mentioned piety in the Holy Quran around 90 times.
In the same way, the blessed Hadith of the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم encourage us to adopt piety and abstinence, as well as explain its virtues. Let us now listen to a few Hadith on this topic.
Hadith regarding the excellence of piety
1. Sayyiduna ibn Mas’ood رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ narrates that the Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would make the following du’a, “O Allah! I ask you for guidance, piety, chastity and richness.”[2]
Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه comments on this blessed Hadith, by saying:
The meaning of guidance is correct beliefs (‘aqeedah), the meaning of piety is good deeds, the meaning of chastity is avoiding evil, and the meaning of richness is to not rely upon creation, and instead entails a person remaining in need of Allah Almighty and His Messenger. This (du’a) encompasses every religious goodness there is.[3]
