relay this Hadith to you.” So, I fasted for a whole year, in order to gain knowledge of this Hadith, and went to Sayyiduna Abu Hamid Misri رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه. He then relayed this blessed Hadith to me:
On the authority of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ:
A person came to the Prophetic court and said, “O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! I wish to ask you about this world and the Hereafter.” In reply, he said, “Ask whatever you wish!”
The person said, “I wish to become the biggest scholar,” to which the final Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم replied, “Keep fearing Allah, you shall become the most knowledgeable.”
“I want to become most wealthy,” he said, and in reply it was stated, “Be content with little, you shall become wealthy.”
“I want to be the best of all,” and in reply it was stated, “The best of all people are those who benefit others. For this reason, become someone who benefits others!”
“I want to be the most just,” and in reply it was stated, “Like for others what you like for yourself, and you shall become the most just of all.”
“I desire to become a distinguished servant of Allah,” and in reply it was stated, “Make dhikr of Allah in abundance, and you shall become His distinguished servant.”
“I desire to be included in the ranks of the spiritually perfected (muhsineen),” and in reply it was stated, “Worship Allah as though you are seeing Him. If you cannot see Him, then (know) He is definitely seeing you.”
“I seek for my faith to become complete,” and in reply it was stated, “Make your character good; your faith will become complete.”
“I want to be from amongst those who obey Allah,” and in reply it was
