Sunnahs and etiquettes of intentions
Dear Islamic brothers! We will now have the honour of hearing some sunnahs and etiquettes regarding intentions. But, first let us listen to 2 sayings of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم:
1. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: اِنَّمَا الاَعْمَالُ بِالنِّیَّات – “Indeed, actions are dependent on intentions.”[1]
2. He صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم also said: نِیَّۃُ الْمُؤْمِنِ خَیْرٌ مِّنْ عَمَلِہٖ – “The intention of a believer is better than his action.”[2]
* More than one good intention can be made for any permissible action.[3]
* One does not receive reward for any righteous action without a good intention.[4]
* The meaning of making a good intention for a righteous action is that the heart be focussed on the action, and that the action be done for the sake of Allah Almighty.[5]
* “Intention” refers to the intention of the heart; but if an intention is present in the heart, it is better to utter it with the tongue too.[6]
