death will certainly come at the appointed time even if you reach secure forts, or places in the sky, or create many modes of protection you will surely die. (Tafseer Na’eemi, vol. 5, p. 242)

The etiquette of the pious predecessors related to the grave

Dear Islamic brothers! When we shall die the journey of the Hereafter will begin the first destination of which is the grave; it is the most important stage of the Hereafter. Our pious predecessors used to weep bitterly as soon as they saw the grave. Consider the fear of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ expressed by, our sinless, pardoned Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم who is a means of forgiveness for others: Our Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once attended a funeral and then sat at the side of the grave and cried so much that the soil became moist. Then he said, ‘Prepare for this.’ (Ibn-e-Majah, vol. 4, p. 466, Hadith 4195)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                  صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

When Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen, Usman Ibn-e-Affaan رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ would visit a grave he used to shed so many tears that his blessed beard became wet. It was said, ‘You do not cry when Paradise or Hell is mentioned and yet you cry so much at the grave, what is the reason for this?’ He replied by saying, ‘I have heard from the Beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم that the first destination of the Hereafter is the grave, if one attains salvation from it then what comes thereafter is easier than it. And if he does not attain salvation from it then what comes thereafter is worse. (Ibn-e-Majah, vol. 4, p. 500, Hadith 4267)
