side and from ‘اٰمَنَ الرَّسُوۡلُ’ to the end of the surah at the side nearest to the feet. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 1, p. 846)

*   It is permissible to place the Shajrah or the Ahd Naamah inside the grave; and it is better to place them in a niche by digging it in front of the face of the deceased towards the Qiblah. In fact, it has been stated in ‘Durr-e-Mukhtar’ that writing the Ahd Naamah on the shroud is permissible, and it says: ‘Forgiveness is hoped for due to this.’

*   It is permissible to write ‘بِسْمِ اللہِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّ حِیۡمِ’ on the chest and the forehead of the deceased. It is also possible that بِسْمِ اﷲ is written on the forehead and the blessed Kalimah, ‘صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم لَآ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا اللہُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللہِ’, is written on the chest. However, it should be written using the index finger after bathing the deceased and before shrouding him. It should not be written with ink. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 1, p. 848)

*   If the bones of the deceased come out of the grave, it is Wajib (necessary) to bury them. (Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 9, p. 406, derived from)

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                                  صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Du’a to be recited when adding soil to the grave

According to the schedule of the weekly Sunnah-inspiring Ijtima’ of Dawat-e-Islami today, ‘the Du’a to be recited at the time of adding soil to the grave’ will be taught. The Du’a is as follows:

مِنْهَا خَلَقْنٰكُمْ وَ فِیْهَا نُعِیْدُكُمْ وَ مِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً اُخْرٰى(۵۵)

We have created you from the earth, and therein you shall be made to return, and from it We shall bring you forth again.
