grace, affection and blessings in your nature that on the Day of the Battle of Uhud, you did not express any form of anger, whereas you were faced with so many difficulties on that day. And if you were of a strict nature and had dealt with your people in a harsh manner, then they would have stayed away from you. O Beloved صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Forgive their mistakes and pray for forgiveness for them, so that Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ forgives them through your intercession.’ (Siraat-ul-Jinaan, vol. 2, pp. 80)

Importance of politeness

Dear Islamic brothers! Just like gold is softened in order to make jewellery, metal is softened in order to make weapons and clay becomes the reason of the field’s greenery after getting soft, similarly, being polite according to the teachings of Islam is such a quality, through which a person adopts the good qualities of mercy, affection, easiness, forgiveness and tolerance. For persuasion let’s now listen to 3 blessed sayings of the Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم regarding the virtues of politeness:

1. The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: ‘O Ayesha رَضِىَ اللهُ عَـنْهَا! Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ is ‘رفیق and loves ‘رفق’ i.e. politeness. Because of politeness He عَزَّوَجَلَّ grants such things that He عَزَّوَجَلَّ does not grant to a person who is harsh. Rather, He عَزَّوَجَلَّ does not grant on anything else other than politeness.’ (Muslim, pp. 1072, Hadees 6601)

2. The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: ‘Whatever thing possesses politeness, gets beautified and from whatever thing it is taken out makes that thing ugly’ (Muslim, pp. 1073, Hadees 6602)

3. The Holy Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم stated: ‘A believer, who creates easiness, is polite, just like a camel with a rein. For when you pull it, it gets pulled and when you make it sit on a cliff, it sits there.’ (Mishkat-ul-Masabih, vol. 3, pp. 230, Hadees 5086)
