Book Name:Blessings of Having a Good Opinion
Dear Islamic brothers! The cobbler attained a higher rank and was considered a greater worshipper than the man who worshipped Allah for 60 years on a mountain. What were the distinguishing qualities of the righteous and pious cobbler? He earned lawful sustenance all day, abstained from the unlawful, gave half of his earnings in charity, and fasted frequently. Yet, the special deed which elevated him above the devoted worshipper was his good opinion of others. He considered everyone better than himself, thought of every believer as a dweller of Paradise, and lived in such humility that his face turned pale.
Dear Islamic brothers! Remember! Ḥusn al-Ẓann is a noble form of worship. The heart that beats within our chest will either increase our good deeds or contribute to our sins. On the Day of Judgement, when the hands, feet, eyes, and ears are questioned, this heart will also testify. If we maintain Ḥusn al-Ẓann towards Muslims, this will be a cause for reward. However, if you foster baseless suspicions and ill thoughts about others, then beware, you will be held accountable for this too.
Sūrah Banī Isrā'īl, verse 36 states:
اِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَ الْبَصَرَ وَ الْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ اُولٰٓىٕكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـٴُـوْلًا (۳۶)
Indeed the ear, and the eye, and the heart; all of these will be questioned.[1]
Imām Aḥmad Razā Khan رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَـلَيْه said:
That heart which possesses the feeling of goodwill for the entire body, becomes immediately distressed if one limb is in pain. Yet our condition is such that our heart has become diseased through committing sins. So how can such a heart care for us or wish us well? Only Allah Almighty knows what will become of us.
Sūrah al-Ḥujurāt, verse 12 states:
