The Blessings of Thinking Well of Others

The innkeeper had a positive assumption of the bandits, served them sincerely, and fed their leftover food to his disabled child. Through the blessings of his good opinion, Allah Almighty cured the child. It was also due to the same blessings that the bandits repented and became righteous. If only we too were granted the ability to think positively about every righteous Muslim, and have good thoughts about our religious teachers, imams, and spiritual guides. اٰمِیْنْ

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                       صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد

Dear Islamic brothers! Since we do not know who among us is a saint, we should value the leftovers of our Muslim brothers. Unfortunately, in our society today, just as many un-Islamic customs have spread, the wasting of leftover food and drink has also become common—even fashionable. Regrettably, food is being disrespected everywhere; at family get-togethers, religious gatherings, social events, and weddings. People often waste food that is perfectly fine to eatleftover curry, pieces of bread, and rice are usually thrown in the bin. This is isrāf (wastefulness), which is sinful. Therefore, repent for anything you have wasted till now, and make a firm intention never to waste a single grain of food again.

Similarly, throwing away the clean leftover water or drink of a Muslim, even though it is usable, should be avoided. It is narrated:

سُؤرُ الْمُؤمِنِ شِفَاءٌ

“The leftover of a believer is a [means of] cure.”[1]

Eating or drinking your Muslim brother’s leftovers not only brings the hope of physical healing but also promotes brotherhood, increases mutual love,
