and Imam Ḥusayn رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ, his companions and even his son ꜤAlī Aṣgar رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ were all experiencing severe hunger and thirst. However, despite this extreme difficulty, they did not falter from the truth. The sudden assaults of the Yazīdi army could not dislodge them from this path. The lions of the Prophetic Household, despite their hunger and thirst, continued to pound the opposition. This is a display of their immense steadfastness, endurance and forbearance.

2.   Whoever desires to be successful must be patient when dealing with tasks. He must wait for the perfect moments and avoid hastiness and impatience. These qualities can be found in the life of Imam Ḥusayn رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ. Mountains of difficulties fell upon him, but his patience and steadfastness did not waiver.

3.   The third principle for success is to have the ability to think and understand. Regardless of how desperate or hopeless you are, you must evaluate your options and choose what is best. When we hear of someone’s death, we tell the deceased’s family about it in a gentle manner, lest they fall unconscious due to sudden grief. Now look at the strength of Imam Ḥusayn رَضِىَ الـلّٰـهُ عَـنْهُ! His sons, brother, nephews and 72 companions were martyred in front of him. However, this grief and worry did not affect his intellect and decisions. Nobody can claim from any book of history that he performed an action that opposed Islamic law due to extreme sorrow.

O devotees of the Prophet! The intellectuals of today deliver long lectures on how to become successful, whereas the grandson of the beloved Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم showed us how to achieve success by displaying the necessary qualities on the plains of Karbala.

صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب                 صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
