the 15th), and on this night, Allah frees from Hell the amount of people equivalent to the number of hairs on the goats of Bani Kalb.’”[1]

Remember, the night of the 15th of Sha’baan has a distinctive quality that makes it unique amongst all other nights. For each and every person, this night is a particularly sensitive and important one, as in this very night, Allah Almighty declares important decisions regarding what will happen in everyone’s destiny for the next year.

Sayyidatuna Aaishah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا reports that the final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم once said to her, “Do you know what happens on this night of mid-Sha’baan?” She replied by saying: “O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! What is special about this night?” He went on to state: “On this night, it is decided about those who will be born and those who will die from the children of Adam. I have observed that you do not fast in any month as you fast in Sha’baan.” He replied: “This is the month between Rajab and Ramadan. People are heedless of this. In this, the deeds of the people are lifted towards Allah, and I would love for my deeds to lifted whilst I am fasting.”[3]

The month in which a list of the dead is made

Sayyidatuna Aaishah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا states: “The final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would fast for the entire month of Sha’baan. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, in
