garment below his ankles out of arrogance, and the one who bears animosity towards a Muslim; these categories of people will be deprived of forgiveness on this night. Therefore, all Muslims should sincerely repent if they are مَعَاذَا لـلّٰـه involved in any of these sins. In fact, now is the time to repent from each and every sin.

Dear Islamic brothers! The majority of us today waste our time on useless things, and even violate the sanctity of this blessed night. The previous Muslims, who had a righteous mindset, would spend these blessed days worshipping Allah Almighty as much as possible, striving to attain favours and bestowals from His court. Unfortunately, it seems as though honour and value for these blessed days no longer remain in the hearts of the Muslims today. During this night, just as the pious people seek salvation from Hell and ask for forgiveness by busying themselves in repentance and istighfar, there are some evil-minded people who, instead of seeking freedom from Hell, spend their money purchasing tools of fire, i.e. fireworks. In this manner, they set off many fireworks and violate the sanctity of this blessed night.

Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه writes: “Fireworks were invented by the evil king, Nimrood. When he placed Sayyiduna Ibrahim Khaleelullah عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم into the fire, it became a garden. The people of Nimrood then lit firecrackers and threw them towards Sayyiduna Ibrahim عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم.”[1]

The ruling on fireworks

Alas! This impure tradition of fireworks is now becoming common among Muslims, with them spending thousands and thousands on fireworks every year. We hear news that so-and-so number of houses were burned down because of fireworks, and so-and-so number of people were burned to death or injured, etc. This contains a risk to life, destruction of wealth, a risk of houses catching fire, and it is also disobedience to Allah Almighty.
