himself to me and requested: ‘O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! Lift your head towards the sky.’ I asked: ‘What kind of night is this?’ He answered: ‘On this night, Allah Almighty opens 300 doors of mercy.’”[1]
سُـبْحٰـنَ الـلّٰــه! The mercy of Allah is limitless and look how it especially showers upon us on this blessed night. 300 doors of mercy are opened for the nation of the Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. But despite this, it is unfortunate that some people are deprived from this mercy because of their actions.
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Those deprived from the gaze of mercy
The mother of the believers, Sayyidatuna Aa’isha Siddiqah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا narrates that the final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: “Sayyiduna Jibraeel عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم came to me, and said, ‘This is the night of mid-Sha’ban, and on this night, Allah frees as many people from the Hellfire as the number of hairs on the goats of Bani Kalb. On this night, Allah Almighty does not cast His Sight of mercy upon the polytheist, the one who bears hatred, the one who severs ties of kinship, the one who drags his lower garment out of arrogance, the one who disobeys his parents and the one who is habitual in consuming alcohol.’”[2]
Six people deprived of forgiveness
Sayyiduna Imam Bayhaqi Shafi’i رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه mentions in Fadaail-ul-Awqat, that the final Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: “There are six people who will not be forgiven even on this night: The habitual consumer of alcohol, the one who disobeys his parents, the habitual adulterer, the one who severs ties of kinship, the one who makes images and the tale-bearer.”[3]
