Book Name:Shabe Barat Ki Ahmiyat o Talaba k Fazail
Ahmad Yar Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه writes: “Making fireworks, selling them, purchasing them, making someone purchase them, setting them alight or telling someone to light them, is all Haram.”[1]
Ala Hazrat, the Imam of the Ahl Al-Sunnah, Imam Ahmad Raza Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه states: “The way in which fireworks are common on weddings and Shab-e-Barat, it is certainly Haram and an absolute transgression, for this involves a squandering of wealth.”[2]
صَلُّوۡا عَلَى الۡحَبِيۡب صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلٰى مُحَمَّد
Dear Islamic brothers! Due to being distant from the religion, the majority of Muslims today spend this blessed and sacred night in heedlessness, just as they do with other nights. We should try to honour this blessed night. Instead of spending the entire night setting off fireworks, harming other Muslims, and disrupting the worship carried out by Muslims, we should worship our Lord, shed tears whilst seeking forgiveness for our sins, and make abundant Du’as for forgiveness. With the intention of acting upon the Sunnah, we should also visit the graveyard and look at the graves in order to develop concern for our Hereafter, and also make Du’a for our deceased.
Shab-e-Barat and visiting graves
The mother of the believers, Sayyidatuna Aa’isha Siddiqah رَضِیَ اللهُ عَنْهَا states: “On one night (i.e. the 15th night of Sha’ban), I did not see the beloved Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم, but then I found him in Baqi’. He صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said to me, ‘Did you fear that Allah Almighty and His Messenger صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم would not fulfil your right?’ I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم! I thought that perhaps you had gone to one of your other blessed wives.’ So, he صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘Indeed, on the 15th night of Sha’ban, Allah Almighty reveals a Divine Manifestation on the lowest sky, and He forgives more sinners than the hairs of Bani Kalb’s goats.’”[3]
