the mother of Sa’d.’ (Meaning, Isal al-Thawab for the mother of Sa’d). Thus, we come to know that the deceased receives the reward from the actions of the living, and benefits from them.’[1]

Similarly, Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan Na’eemi رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه narrates a Hadith in his book, ‘Jaa al-Haq’, with reference to ‘al-Durr-ul-Mukhtar’, which proves that one can transmit the reward of their good deeds to others. Hence, it is stated in the Hadith: مَنْ قَرَءَ الْاِخْلاَصَ اَحَدَ عَشَر مَرَّۃً, ‘Whosoever recites Surah Ikhlas 11 times,’ ثُمَّ وَھَبَ اَجْرَھَا لِلْاَمْوَاتِ, ‘Then transmits its reward to the deceased,’ اُعْطِیَ مِنَ الْاَجْرِ بِعَدَدِ الْاَمْوَاتِ, ‘He will be granted a reward equal to the number of deceased.’

With reference to Fatawa Shaami, he further states: “A person should recite as much Quran as possible; he should recite Surah al-Fatihah, the initial verses of Surah al-Baqarah, Ayat-ul-Kursi, and recite اٰمَنَ الرَّسُوْلُ, (the last Ruku of Surah Baqarah), Surah Yasin, Surah al-Mulk, Surah al-Takathur and Surah Ikhlaas 3 times, 7 times, 11 times or 12 times, and then say: ‘O Allah Almighty! Transmit the reward of everything I have recited to so-and-so.’”[2]

Dear Islamic brothers! We have just discussed proof of performing Fatihah, i.e., reciting various parts of the Quran, transmitting its reward to the souls of the Muslims, and making Du’a for their forgiveness. Mufti Ahmad Yar Khan رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْه further mentions, with reference to Fatawa Azeeziyah: “The food which is given as Niyaz for Hasnayn Karimayn رَضِىَ اللّٰهُ عَـنْهُما, reciting Surah Ikhlaas, Surah al-Fatihah and Salat on the Prophet upon it is a means of blessings, and eating it is very good.”
