Remaining Sunnahs and Etiquettes of ‘Aqeeqah
*2 (male) goats should be slaughtered for the ‘Aqeeqah of a boy, and one doe (female goat) should be slaughtered for the ‘Aqeeqah of a girl. Meaning, a male animal for a boy and a female animal for a girl is more appropriate. If female goats were slaughtered for a boy and a male goat for a girl, still there is no harm in it. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 3, p. 357)
*There can be a share of ‘Aqeeqah in a sacrificial animal such as camel.
* ‘Aqeeqah is not Fard or Wajib, it is merely a Sunnah Mustahabbah (if one has the means, he should definitely do so. But there is no sin if one does not perform it, however, he will be deprived of the reward of ‘Aqeeqah.) It is not permissible for a poor person at all to get an interest-based loan to perform ‘Aqeeqah. (Islami Zindagi, p. 27)
*If a child dies before the 7th day, then not doing his ‘Aqeeqah will not affect his intercession etc. as he passed away before the time of ‘Aqeeqah even approached. However, the child that makes it to the time of ‘Aqeeqah (i.e. 7th days) and his Aqeeqah was not performed without a valid reason while having the means to do so, for that it is mentioned that he will not be able to intercede for his parents. (Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 20, p. 596)
* ‘Aqeeqah is Sunnah on the 7th day after the birth, and this is superior. Otherwise, (it should be performed on) the 14th (day) or the 21st (day). (Fatawa Razawiyyah, vol. 20, p. 586)
