Sunnah and etiquettes of ‘Aqeeqah
O devotees of the Prophet! Let us listen to some Sunnahs and etiquettes of ‘Aqeeqah from the booklet ‘Ghaflat’ [Heedlessness] by Ameer-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, ‘Allamah Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadiri دَامَـتْ بَـرَكَـاتُـهُـمُ الْـعَـالِـيَـهْ. The Messenger of Allah صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم has stated: ‘a boy is pawned in his ‘Aqeeqah; an animal should be slaughtered on his behalf on the 7th day, he should be named, and his head should be shaved off.’ (Tirmizi, vol. 3, p. 177, Hadees 1527)
*To be ‘pawned’ means that full benefit will not be attained from him until the ‘Aqeeqah is not performed. And some scholars of Hadees have said: ‘the child’s protection, his nurturing, and him possessing good qualities is linked to ‘Aqeeqah.’ (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 3, p. 354)
*The animal that is slaughtered as gratitude upon a child’s birth is called ‘Aqeeqah. (Bahar-e-Shari’at, vol. 3, p. 355)
The remaining Sunnahs and etiquettes regarding ‘Aqeeqah will be mentioned in the study circles. Therefore, in order to learn them, do attend the study circles.
