this was a clear test. And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice as a ransom.’
(Tafsīr Khāzin, vol. 4, pp. 22)
After Sayyidunā Ibrāĥīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام made Sayyidunā Ismā’īl عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام lie on the ground to slaughter him, Sayyidunā Jibrāīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلَام brought a ram from Paradise as Fidyaĥ with the order of Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ and uttered loudly from a distance ‘اَللّٰهُ اَكۡبَرُ اَللّٰهُ اَكۡبَرُ’. Listening to this voice, Sayyidunā Ibrāĥīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام lifted his head towards the sky and realized that the ordeal he was made by Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ to go through has turned into ease and a ram has been sent as Fidyaĥ to be sacrificed in place of his son. Delighted, he said ‘لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ وَاللّٰهُ اَكۡبَرُ’. Listening to this, Sayyidunā Ismā’īl عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام said, ‘اَللّٰهُ اَكۡبَرُ وَ لِلّٰهِ الۡحَمۡدُ’. Since then, the Sunnaĥ of all of these three holy figures uttering these blessed words is kept alive till the Day of Judgement. (Bināyaĥ Sharaḥ Ĥidāyaĥ, vol. 3, pp. 387)
Most commentators of the Holy Quran have stated that the ram slaughtered by Sayyidunā Ibrāĥīm عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام as Fidyaĥ for Sayyidunā Ismā’īl عَـلَيْـهِ الـصَّلٰوة ُ وَالـسَّلَام was brought from Paradise. It was the same ram presented as sacrifice by Sayyidunā Ĥābīl
