Riya kari | Showing Off
worships to show people or make them hear his praise then Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ will popularise his deeds amongst people in this world or the next but not with respect rather with humiliation. People will hear about his deeds but will hate him. (Mirāt-ul-Manājīḥ, vol. 7, pp. 129)
Āj bantā ĥūn mu’azziz jo kĥulay Ḥashr mayn ‘ayb
Ĥāye ruswāyī kī āfat mayn pĥansū gā Yā Rab
Today I act dignified, what if on Day of Judgement my faults are revealed
Ah! I will fall into the calamity of disgrace my Lord
10. Paradise is Ḥarām for a show off
The Beloved and Blessed Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said: Allah عَـزَّوَجَــلَّ has made Paradise Ḥarām for every show off.
(Jāmi’-ul-Aḥādīš, vol. 2, pp. 476, Ḥadīš 6725)
‘Allāmaĥ ‘Abdur Raūf Manāwī عَـلَيْهِ رَحۡمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ الۡـهَادِی commented on this Ḥadīš in Fayḍ-ul-Qadīr Sharḥ-u-Jāmi’-iṣ-Ṣaghīr saying: ‘Meaning: A show off cannot be blessed with the good fortune of entering Paradise along with the first lucky persons entering Paradise because he occupied himself with trying to please someone who did not even possess the power to benefit or harm him, so he wasted his deed and damaged his religion. Show offs always remain covered with the dirt (of showing off) so they will be thrown into a furnace to clean their filth and impurities. This is why our pious predecessors performed good deeds but then continuously protected the constant sincerity of their intentions due to fear of their worships being rejected.
