Riya kari | Showing Off
Show offs who spend wealth in order to impress people have been declared the friends of Satan. It is stated in part 5 Sūraĥ An-Nisā:
وَ الَّذِیْنَ یُنْفِقُوْنَ اَمْوَالَهُمْ رِئَآءَ النَّاسِ وَ لَا یُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَ لَا بِالْیَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِؕ-وَ مَنْ یَّكُنِ الشَّیْطٰنُ لَهٗ قَرِیْنًا فَسَآءَ قَرِیْنًا(۳۸)
And those who spend their wealth to show off to the people, and do not believe in Allah and nor the Last Day; and whoever has Satan (the devil) as a companion – what an evil companion he is!
[Kanz-ul-Īmān (Translation of Quran)] (Part 5, Sūraĥ An-Nisā, verse 38)
3. The valley of Hell that will be the destination of those who show off
Unfortunate people who show off with their prayers will reside in Hell. Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ states:
فَوَیْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّیْنَۙ(۴) الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ عَنْ صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُوْنَۙ(۵) الَّذِیْنَ هُمْ یُرَآءُوْنَۙ(۶) وَ یَمْنَعُوْنَ الْمَاعُوْنَ۠(۷)
So devastation is to those offering prayer (Ṣalāĥ). Those (performers of Ṣalāĥ) who are neglectful of their Ṣalāĥ. Those who exercise show off (of their deeds). And do not give (to needy) when they ask for small articles of use.
