sin then it must also save a man from the harm of showing off to a greater extent. (Iḥyā-ul-‘Ulūm, vol. 3, pp. 385)

Act equally whether in private or public
Sayyidunā Abū Ĥurayraĥ رَضِىَ اللهُ تَعَالٰی عَـنْهُ reported that the Beloved and Blessed Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘When a man offers a good Ṣalāĥ in public and a good Ṣalāĥ in private then Allah عَزَّوَجَلَّ says, this is My true bondman.’
(Sunan Ibn Mājaĥ, Kitāb-uz-Zuĥd, vol. 4, pp. 468, Ḥadīš 4200)
Ḥakīm-ul-Ummat Muftī Aḥmad Yār Khān عَـلَيْهِ رَحْـمَةُ الْـمَنَّان commented on this Ḥadīš saying: i.e. this man is not a show off, rather he is sincere. If he was a show off then he would offer a good Ṣalāĥ in public but to a lesser standard in solitude. Since he offers Ṣalāĥ well even in solitude, he is sincere. (Mirāt-ul-Manājīḥ, vol. 7, pp. 140)
Dear Islamic brothers! Whether we are alone or amongst Islamic brothers we must make our best efforts to worship equally in both situations. For example, we must demonstrate the same humility and fear in Ṣalāĥ when alone that we display when we are in public and whatever deed we hesitate to do in public, we should refrain from it in private as well. The Noblest Prophet صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم said, ‘Whatever you dislike to do in front of people, do not do it when alone either.’ (Al-Jāmi’-uṣ-Ṣaghīr, letter Mīm, vol. 2, pp. 487, Ḥadīš. 7973)
