Shab e Barat Congregation

Shab-e-Barat Congregation at the Global Madani Markaz Faizan-e-Madina, Karachi

As per tradition, on the fifteenth night of Sha‘ban al-Mu‘azzam, a grand Shab-e-Barat congregation is arranged for the general public at the Global Madani Markaz Faizan-e-Madina, Karachi, under the auspices of Dawat-e-Islami. The program includes collective worship, remembrance of Allah (Dhikr), sessions of Islamic knowledge, Madani Muzakrah, and special supplications.

According to the schedule, voluntary I‘tikaf will be observed on 14 Sha‘ban 1447 AH from after the Asr prayer until Maghrib. The Shab-e-Barat gathering will formally commence on 15 Sha‘ban after the Maghrib prayer with the performance of six special voluntary prayers, in accordance with the practices of Ahl-e-Sunnah and the righteous saints.

The fifteenth night of Sha‘ban is among those blessed nights regarding which strong narrations mention the acceptance of supplications and deeds. This night holds a unique and profound spiritual significance. It is believed that the record of deeds for the past year is raised, and decisions concerning the coming year are entrusted to the angels by Divine command. Due to its importance as a night of decree, numerous Ahadith of the Holy Prophet highlight its virtues and special rulings.

From the time of the Companions رضي الله عنهم until today, Muslims have devoted this night to worship, remembrance of Allah, recitation of the Qur’an, and supplications. On this night, believers also visit graveyards to convey rewards (Isal-e-Thawab) to the deceased. Fasting on the day of 15 Sha‘ban is also observed.

Every year, Dawat-e-Islami organizes Shab-e-Barat congregations across the world. Particularly in Karachi, at the Global Madani Markaz Faizan-e-Madina, large numbers of people begin gathering from the daytime of 14 Sha‘ban. After Asr, voluntary I‘tikaf is observed, followed by special repentance and supplications before sunset. With the beginning of the fifteenth night, the entire night is spent in worship, spiritual discipline, and acquiring Islamic knowledge.

On this blessed occasion, a Madani Muzakrah is also held at the Global Madani Markaz Faizan-e-Madina, during which the renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual leader of the Muslim world, Allama Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Qadri, personally delivers guidance and spiritual training to the participants.
